Black Floor Tiles
Black floor tiles create depth, contrast and a refined foundation for the entire room. They complement white walls, natural wood, metallic finishes and green plants, making them ideal for Japandi, mid-century, industrial and modern interiors.
The Woos Tiles collection includes natural marble, volcanic stone and black glass mosaics in square, hexagon, rectangle, penny round and triangle shapes. Custom sizes, finishes and mosaic patterns are also available for residential and commercial projects.

Black Floor Tile Materials
Black Marble and Natural Stone Tiles
Black marble and natural stone offer rich color, distinctive veining and natural variation. Options include Black Marquina, Mongolian Black and Hainan Black stone.
These materials can be cut into different shapes and finished with polished, honed or textured surfaces. Honed and textured finishes are generally more practical for flooring, while polished tiles are better suited to dry areas or decorative details.
Black Volcanic Stone Tiles
Black volcanic stone features natural pores, subtle tonal variation and a rugged surface. Its dark gray-black color is particularly suitable for industrial, rustic and Japandi interiors.
Depending on the finish and product specifications, volcanic stone may be used on kitchen floors, bathroom floors, entryways, cafés and other commercial spaces. Sealing is recommended when required to reduce staining and simplify cleaning.
Black Glass Mosaic Floor Tiles
Black glass mosaics are available in vitreous glass, water glass, recycled glass and crystal glass. Surface options include sanded, matte, textured and glossy finishes.
For flooring, choose only glass mosaics specifically approved for foot traffic. Matte and textured surfaces are usually more practical for bathrooms and other moisture-prone spaces, while glossy glass is better for dry floors or decorative areas unless otherwise rated.
Black Metal and Tahitian Mother-of-Pearl Accents
Black-plated metal and Tahitian mother-of-pearl can be added to custom mosaics as borders, geometric accents or decorative focal points.
These materials are intended mainly for limited decorative areas rather than full-floor installation. Metal accents should be kept away from wet areas unless the specific product is approved for that application.
Black Floor Tile Shapes
Square Black Floor Tiles
Square tiles create an orderly, balanced layout. Small square mosaics suit bathrooms and compact spaces, while larger squares give kitchens, dining rooms and living areas a more continuous appearance.
Black Hexagon Floor Tiles
Hexagon tiles create a honeycomb pattern with a classic geometric character. Use dark grout for a seamless appearance or light grout to emphasize the shape.
Black Rectangle Tiles
Rectangle and linear tiles add direction to the floor. Horizontal layouts can visually widen a room, while offset and herringbone patterns introduce more movement.
Black Penny Round Tiles
Penny round mosaics bring a softer, vintage-inspired look to bathroom floors, powder rooms and decorative areas. Their small format also adapts well to curved and compact surfaces.
Black Triangle Tiles
Triangle mosaics can form diamonds, zigzags and other geometric patterns. They are ideal for entryways, borders and personalized floor designs.
How to Select the Right Size and Finish
Mosaic Sheet and Tile Sizes
Many black mosaic tiles are supplied on approximately 300 × 300 mm mesh-mounted sheets. Each sheet covers about 0.09 m², requiring approximately 11 sheets per square meter before cutting waste.
Common individual tile sizes include:
-
Small mosaics: 23 × 23 mm or 25 × 25 mm
-
Medium mosaics: approximately 48 × 48 mm
-
Larger and specialty formats: 48 × 51 mm, 73 × 84 mm or custom sizes
-
Typical thickness: approximately 4–8 mm
-
Volcanic stone thickness: commonly around 8–10 mm
Always confirm the dimensions and coverage shown on the individual product page.
Choosing a Floor Finish
For floors, consider sanded, matte, natural or textured surfaces. These finishes provide more surface texture than polished designs.
Slip performance depends on the complete product—not color alone. Surface finish, grout joints, drainage, footwear and maintenance all affect how a floor performs when wet. Check the product’s floor and wet-area rating before ordering.
Black Floor Tiles by Room
Kitchen Floors
Choose floor-rated volcanic stone, natural stone or textured glass mosaic. Black floors pair especially well with white cabinets, natural wood and brushed metal details.
Bathroom and Shower Floors
Small square or hexagon mosaics create additional grout joints and a detailed surface. Select only products approved for wet floors and confirm their slip-performance specifications before installation.
Entryways and Hallways
Black marble mosaics, triangle patterns and hexagon tiles can turn the entrance into a strong visual feature. Rectangle tiles may also help a narrow hallway appear wider or longer.
Living and Dining Areas
Larger square, rectangle or volcanic stone tiles produce a calm, continuous floor. Matte finishes and dark grout create a particularly refined modern appearance.
Balconies and Terraces
Use only tiles specifically approved for exterior applications. Water absorption, climate, freeze-thaw conditions, drainage and installation methods must all be considered.
Grout, Installation and Maintenance
Dark gray or black grout creates a continuous appearance, while white or light gray grout highlights hexagon, penny round and triangle patterns.
Mesh-mounted mosaics should be installed over a clean, level and stable substrate using an adhesive suitable for the tile material. Wet areas also require a correctly designed waterproofing and drainage system.
Clean glass with a non-abrasive cleaner. Use pH-neutral products on natural stone and avoid acidic cleaners on marble. Marble and volcanic stone should be sealed when recommended for the selected finish and environment.
Allow approximately 5%–10% extra material for cutting and replacement. Complex patterns and irregular rooms may require additional waste.
Custom Black Floor Tiles
Woos Tiles offers custom sizes, shapes, finishes, mesh dimensions, borders and mosaic patterns. Natural stone, glass, metal and mother-of-pearl can be combined to create distinctive geometric floors and decorative details.

Black Floor Tile FAQs
Do black floor tiles show dirt?
Black tiles can disguise some marks but may show pale dust, soap residue or mineral deposits. Matte surfaces and dark grout are generally easier to maintain than highly polished tiles with white grout.
Which black tiles are suitable for bathroom floors?
Choose floor-rated tiles with a suitable wet-area finish. Textured glass mosaics, honed natural stone and selected volcanic stone products may be suitable when confirmed by the individual specifications.
Can glass mosaic tiles be installed on floors?
Yes, but only when the specific glass mosaic is approved for flooring. Wall-only glass tiles should not be used on floors.
Are polished black tiles suitable for shower floors?
Not automatically. Polished surfaces can become slippery when wet. Use them only when the product has documented approval for shower-floor installation.
Do black natural stone tiles need sealing?
Many marble and volcanic stone tiles benefit from sealing. The exact requirement depends on the stone, finish, porosity and installation environment.
Can black floor tiles be customized?
Yes. Woos Tiles can customize the tile size, shape, surface finish, mesh backing, border and mosaic pattern.
How many extra tiles should I order?
Order at least 5%–10% extra for cutting, breakage and future repairs. Diagonal layouts and complex patterns may require a larger allowance.
Can black floor tiles be used outdoors?
Only products specifically approved for exterior use should be installed outdoors. Confirm climate, water absorption and freeze-thaw suitability before ordering.
